What Are Brick and Block?
Many of our customers ask us what is the difference between brick and block walls, so this prompted us to write this brief but comprehensive post to clear up any confusion.
Brick is the most commonly used building material used today, they can be used to make walls, pavements, and other such things in construction. In days gone by, the word brick used to refer to a unit composed of clay, however, thanks to modern advancements, it is now used to describe rectangular items that are made from clay, shale, clay-bearing soil, concrete, or even soil. Bricks are merged by interlocking them and using a mortar or some other adhesive.
Block is generally bigger than brick but is a similar term that refers to a rectangular unit made up of aggregates of specific mixtures depending on the strength needed and is more lightweight.
So, What is the difference between bricks and blocks?
The most important difference is in size, shape, composition, and weight. Blocks are often bigger and more lightweight and are made from concrete when compared to brick. Blocks come in either solid or hollow format and are used where strength is needed, such as load-bearing walls.
Are Bricks and Blocks fireproof?
Concrete blocks do have a build resistance to fire, so it doesn’t need any additional fire protection, whereas bricks are made in a kiln, so they have high resistance to fire. Most bricks and blocks are fire-rated A1, making them non-flammable in nature.
